It is very normal for kids to struggle getting through homework time for a variety of reasons. For some, they simply need help completing homework and it has nothing to do with the difficulty of the subject matter. Several things can get in the way of your child being able to independently work at home. Sensory challenges, ADHD, delayed development of fine motor skills, or inability to organize themselves could be some underlying factors.
Occupational Therapy can assist children by providing the tools and support specific to what they need. Our 4 week program, lead by our Licensed Occupational Therapist, is created for children 12 years old and under. We will introduce them to various tools and activities each week. During the group session, we will utilize activities, such as puzzles, word games etc to allow them to test out what they are learning. We limit our group size to 6 in order to provide individual attention, while honoring the idea of normalizing what they are struggling with.
We will work with parents, teaching them how they can support the child in their home environment. We will continue to pivot and re-calibrate from week to week in order to adjust to the specific need of the child. The final week, we will assess their progress by having them bring their homework with them to identify areas of opportunity. This is a huge win for the child, it's also a win for the entire family. Getting through homework time can be made easier, feasible, and rewarding.
Lets build confidence together and the earlier the better.
