We are pleased to announce our 12th Annual Evening for the Estuary! This year’s theme is Luminous Nights, highlighting the magical bioluminescent life that calls the estuary home. Our waters contain many sparkling species, from tiny dinoflagellate plankton to jellyfish and crustaceans. Plankton is particularly important to the estuary because it forms the base of the estuarine food web. The oxygen, nutrients, and biomass it produces sustain life outside the water – from the food we eat to the air we breathe. They are truly worthy of celebration!
Luminous Nights – An Evening for the Estuary raises money to fund education, research, and protection of the estuary and everything within it. Each year, the Friends of the GTM Reserve hosts this exciting event for the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve.
