Luminous Nights - An Evening for the Estuary

We are pleased to announce the date for our 12th Annual Evening for the Estuary on Saturday, May 6, 2023. This year’s theme is Luminous Nights, highlighting the magical bioluminescent life that calls the estuary home. Our waters contain many sparkling species, from tiny dinoflagellate plankton to jellyfish and crustaceans. Plankton is particularly important to the estuary because it forms the base of the estuarine food web. The oxygen, nutrients, and biomass it produces sustain life outside the water – from the food we eat to the air we breathe. They are truly worthy of celebration!
Luminous Nights – An Evening for the Estuary raises money to fund education, research, and protection of the estuary and everything within it. Each year, the Friends of the GTM Reserve hosts this exciting event for the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve.
For the past four years, An Evening for the Estuary has sold out, with over 200 guests from Ponte Vedra, St. Augustine, and the surrounding areas joining together in celebration while enjoying locally sourced cuisine from the area’s finest restaurants. Watching the sunset on the Guana River is a favorite. This year will sparkle brighter than ever with signature luminescent drinks, dancing on a dazzling dance floor, and other glittering surprises! World-class celebrity bartender Jonathan Mateer will serve exclusive selections created especially for Luminous Nights. John Bachman, Action News Jax anchor, will be back as our master of ceremonies. This promises to be our most exciting event yet, and we hope you will be there for the celebration!
