The St. Johns Cultural Council, in partnership with St. Johns County, is expanding its Art in Public Spaces program to include the Health & Human Services Building. The launch features a Veterans Day Photography Contest honoring American veterans through the theme: “The Veteran and the American Flag.”
Inspired by Vietnam veteran and photographer Rick McAllister, the contest invites artists nationwide to submit up to three original photos featuring a veteran and the American flag. Submissions are open August 1–September 30, 2025, and will be judged by the St. Augustine Camera Club and McAllister.
Selected works (20–35 pieces) will be showcased in the Stories of American Veterans exhibition at the reFrame Gallery, located at 200 San Sebastian View. Winners will be announced on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, at VFW Post 2391, with an opening reception on Nov. 20, 5:30–7 p.m., at the St. Johns County Administration Building, featuring awards, hors d’oeuvres, and a celebration of the photographers and veterans.
