The historic headwaters of Bulow Creek originate in the large freshwater basin which is Graham Swamp. More than 2,500 acres of the property are covered by wetland hardwood swamp. The remainder of the property is forested upland that fringes the basin and forms small islands within the swamp. Graham Swamp had been heavily impacted by previous ditching, and the construction of dikes. However, it still performs the important ecological functions of retaining and filtering storm water runoff from developments located to the west and north.
