Looking for fun activities for your kids this summer? Join the St. Augustine Art Association for this year’s Summer Art Camps!
Students will explore a variety of mediums and techniques to encourage art appreciation and critical thinking, as well as allow students to experiment with their own creativity. In these week-long camp sessions, young artists will be introduced to 2-D and 3-D mixed media, drawing, painting, collage, and more!
Shape & Sculpt
June 16 - 20 (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM)
Let’s start off the summer with stunning sculpture! Join us as we explore the exciting world of three-dimensional art using air-dry clay to create everything from decorative bowls to small self-portraits. Combined with colorful paint, paper and cardboard, we’ll discover how simple materials can create a variety of sculptural designs. By the end of this week, you’ll have mastered the techniques to carve, mold and shape your creations — making each work of art truly one-of-a-kind!
This camp is recommended for grades 1 – 6.
Designing Drama
June 23 - 27 (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM)
Step into the spotlight and become part of a creative production! This week, we’ll blend visual arts with performing arts by designing fabric costumes, painting masks, and creating stunning backdrops for the play “Who’s in Rabbit’s House?” — an exciting African folk tale. On the last day, you’ll set the stage with a group performance and unveil all of your creative designs!
This camp is recommended for grades 1 – 6.
Patterns, Papers & Pop-Ups
July 21 - 25 (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM)
Learn how to make your art come to life in a whole new way! This week, we’ll explore how colorful patterns and textures can make your artwork literally jump off the page. Let loose and have fun as we mix it up with paper, paint and creative collage to build pop-up art that’s as fun to make as it is to show off! From creating books that come to life with every turn of the page to layered cards that pop, fold and twist — you’ll unlock the magic of mixed media collage and innovative design!
This camp is recommended for grades 6 – 9.
Illuminated Imagination
July 28 - August 1 (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM)
What happens when you change the way you see art? Together, let’s look at artwork through a new lens — using light, shadows and perspective to make your creations stand out in surprising ways. From glow-in-the-dark paintings to brightly-lit drawings and creations, you’ll explore how perspective can change everything. By the end of this week, your works of art will bring an explosion of light to any dark space!
This camp is recommended for grades 1 – 6.
