Hello, my name is Nate Fudala. I am your head camp counselor and am so happy to say that we have locked in our dates for our 10th year of summer camp! Thank you so much for your interest. I hope that you decide to join us for camp, and if you have any questions feel free to email me at nate@backyardrule.com
Our camp objective is to teach fundamental Baseball/Softball skills in a safe, fun, and inclusive atmosphere. We play various games such as Wiffle ball, Kickball, Tag, and more. Although many of our games appear goofy and chaotic, we are teaching hand-eye coordination, footwork, throwing mechanics, and other athletic movements. The biggest lesson that I hope campers take away from camp is how to overcome failure. Give your best effort, stop the blaming and complaining, get up, and try again!
Our camp makes for a perfect introduction to the game for youngsters, and is also challenging for more seasoned ballplayers. Our games, drills, and format has been forged into near perfection by years of trial, error, and adjustment always aiming to maximize playing time and minimize standing around.
Meet your coach!
Hello! my name is Coach Nathan Fudala. I graduated from Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL in 2012 where I played 4 years of Baseball. When my playing days ended I launched Backyard Rule with the goal of sharing my love for the game.
We specialize in “pop-up” Wiffle ball tournaments, fundraisers, camps, after-school clinics, and more. Summer Camp is by far my favorite part of the year. The opportunity to develop a kid’s love for the game of Baseball/Softball is not something I take lightly. I believe the greatest lesson the game teaches us is how to overcome failure. There is no other sport where you are considered great if you fail 7/10 times. Building the mental strength to overcome this obstacle is something that benefits us the rest of our life, regardless of how long our playing days last. Besides teaching campers to deal with failure, I do my best to instill a “fair-play” attitude, encourage hustle, and to create an atmosphere that builds teamwork and confidence. You do not have to be a seasoned Baseball/Softball player to enjoy this camp. Come out, have fun, and play outside! All of the games and drills we do can be taken home and played with relatives or friends.
A bit more about camp… Campers do not need bats, balls, helmets, or gloves. All playing equipment is provided. Campers should bring a refillable water bottle, a snack, and a small bag for their belongings. Campers should wear a T-shirt, shorts, gym shoes, and a hat (sunscreen and sunglasses are also recommended). Each day begins with campers checking in. At 9:00 am we begin a big group stretch, do an ice-breaking game with the whole group, then a quick “pow-wow” to encourage hustle and good sportsmanship. We then break off into a 4-station rotation, each station lasting 15-20 minutes. These stations/drills take us to 10:30 am, where we break for snack time and pick teams for a mini tournament. From 11:00 am - noon teams compete in tournament-style competitions until pick up.
Thank you again for your interest in camp. If you have any questions please email me at nate@backyardrule.com
